9 Reasons to not use UK2.net domain hosting

[1] They are not cheap
Ok so they might look cheap at first, but after you register your domain everything else is an add-on. Your website(s) will posssibly cost more in the end.

[2] Pop-ups and the UK2 advertising banner
You will have to pay for removal of pop-ups and the UK2 advertising banner.

[3] Webspace is extra
Webspace costs extra and it will be assigned to only one domain name. If you have more than one domain that you want to run separately, you need to buy webspace for each and every domain. This now becomes very expensive.

[4] Upgrades and add ons are assigned to each domain
You must also pay for upgrades for each domain separately (CGI-PHP, Statistics etc)

[5] Email is a forwarding service only
If you want a POP3 Mailbox or use IMAP, you will need to create a separate UK2.net mailbox address. Even if you pay extra for unlimited email address forwarding you will not be able to forward to multiple recipients.

[6] It's pot luck whether your CGI scripts will run
Even something as simple as FormMail will not run on the UK2 servers. If you use their own version of FormMail, any mail generated can only be sent to a UK2.net mail box and cannot be forwarded.

[7] Support
My own experience of the support team is that:They will reply with a block of standard text which does not answer the query, or, they reply with various conflicting and incorrect answers.

[8] Transferring your domain
When you have had enough of UK2 and want to move away, they will charge you to have control of your domain and allow the transfer to proceed. But they will not make it easy, they seem to do everything in their power to stop the transfer proceeding.

[9] Renewals
They will renew your domain and services and charge your credit card even when you have asked them not to, and even after you have transferred you domain away from them.

Unlock domain 27 Nov 2006 12:49 PM

Q How do I unlock this domain to transfer out? I have created a Joker handle but it will not allow me to modify this domain

A Please update your Whois details before transfering the domain away. To update these details, please log into http://www.uk2.net/domains.shtml with the Domain name and password you wish to move away. Inside your Domain Control Panel, click "Owner Details" and in here are two links or more along the top. Each link edits different information about your domain. Please ensure that all information is up to date. Then in order to transfer your domain to another host please go to http://amail.co.uk/moveaway.htm Please fill out the online form; once this form has been fully completed the admin contact will be changed to the owners details so that when your new host submits the transfer request it will go to the domain owner for authorisation. The online form should also be faxed to 020 7788 XXXX.

Unlock Domain 27 Nov 2006 04:54 PM

Q Can you tell me how to unlock this domain to enable transfer? I did ask earlier but received a reply explaining how to pay for a transfer. All I wish to do is unlock the domain. Please advise

Follow up - I have spent the entire day trying to unlock the domain to transfer - this is becoming beyond a joke. I have followed your instructions but still need to send a fax! (UGH?) With a copy of MY PASSPORT !!! (WHAT!) Tha last domain I moved away from UK2 was done with a lot less hassle. So, can you please just get on with it and unlock the domain so I am free (at least as far as this domain goes) from UK2.net and I can get on with my life

A Thank you for your support request. We have unlocked the domain. Please check it from your end.

Q Great! Thanks, Now that it is unlocked can you please deal with the transfer request? I have also faxed confirmation of this request to you. (To: "XXXXXX" XXXXX.CO.UK) Previously with UK2 domains I have been able to change the admin contact email addresses via Joker.com and deal with it myself. This time round I am unable to. Can you confirm receipt of the fax? TIA

Follow up - Well - are you dealing with it?

A Sorry for the inconveniences caused to you. As you know we have been in the middle of certain problems and now our techs are working hard to get it resolved one by one and were successfull in those. Also we know that its taking long time to get back to your queries. As a result we just need to know whether your issue has been resolved or not. If not let us know which will help us to assist you in a better way.

Q Nope, the query has NOT been resolved. I need to transfer out of UK2 I have filled in your payment authority, so I have now PAID for the service (or lack of it) which I do not want anymore. It doesn't make any sense to me but for UK2 its nothing more than ransom money. I have faxed a copy of my passport and confirmation my of instructions to you. And, so far nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, has happened. But at least you are now replying to email. I guess that's a start.

A Thank you for your support request. The domain transfer order is getting updated. It may take some more time.Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.

Admin C - 28 Nov 2006 07:11 AM

Q I have received this request from my other existing domain provider. Please can you reply to advise me that you will be either deailing with this on my behalf or allow me to change the admin-C to my own control (I did think that this was my domain!) The transfer will be to "XXXXX" - XXXX.co.uk Thank you "Your Account Number: XXXXXX Dear Mr Crawford, You have ordered a change of provider for the domain XXXXXXXX-XXXXXX.com In order for this to be carried out, we require the explicit agreement of the domain owner or the domain's administrative contact (Admin-C). For the Admin-C or domain owner to provide agreement via an online process, we have sent the appropriate form via email to the following email address: hostmaster@uk2.net . Please could you also get in contact with this person and provide information about this procedure. As soon as we receive the consent to change provider, we will start the process to change from the current provider."

A Thank you for your support request. Could you be more specific regarding the query. Are you asking for a transfer request from uk2.net to XXX. Please get back to us with the query, so that we can help you.

Q I am trying to transfer the domain from UK2 to XXX Transfer has been instigated through XXX by me. UK2 need to either: deal with the transfer on my behalf, or give me access to domain so that I can deal with the transfer. I have also faxed confirmation of my instructions (as requested) - I shall fax it again. So can you please confirm that you are dealing with the transfer or, change the admin-c email address to mine so that I can deal with it myself. It ain't rocket science :-)

Follow up - I just faxed confirmation of it again. Tell me if you don't receive it and I will fax it again.

Q This is becominng circular... I have followed your instructions previously and gone to http://amail.co.uk/moveaway.htm but now I get an error which states ERROR DOMAIN NOT TAGGED TO UK2NET, ALREADY MOVED OR NOT WITH US Also, the site is down (which costs me about XXX XXX per day) I have also faxed you (twice). So, can you please explain whether the transfer is going ahead to XXX? Do I need to fax you AGAIN?

A As a part of the transfer procedure we have mailed the auth code to your admin contact mail : sXXXXX@XXXXXernet.com . Please do let us know if you need any further assistance regarding this.

Q Great thanks. Are you also going to send the user name? This has taken 10 days so far. Perhaps you could also forward to me the authorisation requests which XXX sent to hostmaster@UK2.net, it might save me waiting another 10 days...

A Hi Andrew, That is not something we are able to give out, to transfer out your domain please follow the instructions already highlighted in previous emails. Although you have the auth code the domain will not be unlocked until you have completed our online transfer procedure, including paying the transfer out fee using the online form.

Q I have already completed everything which was requested. My next step will be to sue for my time wasted, my inconvenience, my frustration, and any other losses caused by the incompetence of UK2.net Alternatively you could just unlock the domain and allow transfer to proceed. Over to you.

A My mistake, the ticket you will be replied to is MHW-975278, please respond to only this ticket and not the others. Opening more tickets will not result in a quicker resolution to any problems i'm afraid.

Q Whatever "ticket" you reply to is irrelevant. All you need to do is to allow the transfer and there will be NO MORE TICKETS regarding this domain

A I'm afraid that i will have to put all tickets that are not replies to MHW-975278 on hold, as all you are achieving is poor response times for our other customers. CXXXXX PXXXX is currently looking at your problem and will reply to you shortly.

UK2.net finally allowed the transfer to proceed after I made a formal threat of legal action.
